Career Success & Leadership
Tony Genco is the former President and CEO of Parc Downsview Park Inc. and was responsible for developing the former military base in Toronto into a self-financing National Urban Park.
He provided effective leadership during times of turmoil and quickly rose through the ranks of the Corporation. He executed his vision of turning Downsview Park into a unique federal landmark equipped with sporting facilities and worked to ensure that the park was ready to host major events including World Youth Day, Pope Jean Paul II’s visit, and the SARS benefit concert.
Community Involvement
Tony has extensive experience in grassroots initiatives and has participated in a variety of communications, public relations, and outreach initiatives.
Among his many community activities, he currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Columbus Centre and the Vaughan Public Libraries Board and is a founding Board member of the Vaughan Social Action Council.
He was appointed to the Board of Trustees of York Central Hospital bringing a hospital site to Vaughan and has served as Chair of the Quality & Performance Management Committee and as the Treasurer of the hospital. He was elected Chair of the Board in June 2010 and currently serves as Chair of the Executive Committee.
He is also an External Fellow at York University’s McLaughlin College and a member of the Canadian Sustainability Indicators Network and the Development Committee of the North American Association of Environmental Educators.
Background
Tony is a long-time resident of Vaughan, living in Woodbridge. He’s married to Lea and has two children – Merilena and John. His parents Maria and Rocco also live in Woodbridge. Tony has a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University.
